Visting Abiquiu & Ojo Caliente

If you're looking for a day trip with art history and relaxation, this drive is for you. The first stop on this trip is Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu (AB-bey-cue). Tours of the home are given mid-March through November and require a reservation. Then, you can explore the 21,000-acre Ghost Ranch Conference Center and visit an ongoing paleontology quarry and several hiking trails. Aficionados of Georgia O’Keeffe’s artwork will note many of her landmarks here. For a short hike in the area, you can stop and visit Echo Amphitheater. Finally, once you've got your steps in, you can drive to Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa, a location famous for its hot springs and mineral pools.

Directions

To visit Abiquiu and Ojo Caliente, drive east from Los Alamos on SR 502, exit on SR 30 to Española, then continue north on US 84. The first stop on this trip is Georgia O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu home. Continue on US 84 to arrive at the 21,000-acre Ghost Ranch Conference Center. Drive further north on US 84 to visit Echo Amphitheater. Then, reverse back on US 84 to Abiquiu and turn left onto State Road 554 for a rambling 12-mile drive through El Rito. Continue right on SR 554 for another 12 miles to Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. Once you've relaxed, make your way back to Los Alamos County.
